Mapping & Applications Intern - Beaufort County
Summary Objective
The purpose of this internship position is to develop skills through a collaboration between GIS and IT Application Programming. You will assist staff in geographic information services in support of County departments, the general public, and outside agencies. You will also be participating in the integration support for Enterprise software applications and gain experience in supporting existing applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Learn basic principles of GIS database development, qualitative/quantitative analysis in a mapping environment.
- Compile, manipulate, and refine Geographic data from a variety of sources.
- Support the customization of GIS workflow and software programs for data collection.
- Utilize both desktop (ArcGIS desktop and ArcGIS Pro) and online (ArcGIS Online) resources to create and edit data assets.
- Create and customize both digital and hardcopy maps.
- Assist in collecting needs from end users, documenting them, and supporting the implementation of solutions.
- Assist in identifying and implementing automation solutions to improve efficiency of office tasks.
- Participate in the coding/development/maintenance, testing and implementation of systems under guidance.
- Contribute to the design of solutions to solve business problems while learning the business functions supported by the system.
- Work in a team environment to design solutions to solve business problems while learning the business functions supported by the system.
- Assist in automating tasks through appropriate tools and scripting.
- Assist in reviewing and debugging code with supervision.
- Perform validation and verification testing.
- Collaborate with internal teams to fix and improve software.
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be currently enrolled in high school as a Junior or Senior.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
Supplemental Information
All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
