Summary Objective
The purpose of this internship is to assist with administrative tasks related to County Council and committee meetings, providing support in the preparation of agendas, meeting documentation, and public notices. The intern will gain valuable experience in local government administration, working under the guidance of the Clerk of Council.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Assist in preparing agendas, packets, and supporting documents for County Council and committee meetings.
  • Support the transcribing, editing, and finalization of meeting minutes.
  • Help prepare and distribute public notices and announcements for meetings and hearings.
  • Update the County’s website with relevant meeting information, agendas, and minutes.
  • Provide general administrative assistance, including answering phone calls and responding to emails.
  • Aid in coordinating board and commission meetings, including sending reminders and ensuring compliance with procedural requirements.

 

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must currently be enrolled as a junior or senior in high school.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

 

Supplemental Information

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
